About Us

As a Family Resource Center
our mission is to provide a safe and comfortable setting to network, share and acquire skill, and access services to create a better childhood for our youngest citizens.

We pursue our mission by being a hub of resources, strengthening families by serving the whole family unit, whether thriving or struggling, in Williams, and Colusa County through education, support, assistance, and referrals while emphasizing our nature of being a family friendly, comfortable environment.  We are sustainable by First 5 Colusa, a variety of grants, and community donations.

History

The Williams Family Action Center is nestled in the rural city of Williams in the Williams Elementary School, 1404 E Street, Room 102. The center opened in April of 2006, patterned after the successful Arbuckle Family Action Center and founded by First 5 Colusa. In 2007 the Williams and Arbuckle centers joined to form the non-profit agency,  Family Action Centers of Colusa County, (FACCC) in an effort to improve and sustain services and programs.  As always, we will continue to depend on community support to be successful.  We thank our community for not only helping us as we grow, but also for allowing us to better serve the community.

Currently, the programs and services offered at the Williams Family Action Center include: Growing Start, which prepares children and their families to begin and be successful in school; Nutrition classes which assist individuals and families to achieve healthier lifestyles; Parenting Classes which support parents as well as offer positive parenting choices; Computer classes, and public use computers, so that the public can improve their job skills while learning how to navigate the internet, compose a resume, job search and more; CalFresh education and application assistance; Medi-Cal and Covered California education and application assistance; Breastfeeding counseling by certified Lactation Counselors; referral services; translation services; as well as general support and assistance to community members.

The Williams Family Action Center is, in large part, funded through First 5 Colusa.  In 1998,  the California Children and Families Act (Proposition 10) was enacted, increasing taxes on tobacco products in order to provide funds to create a comprehensive and integrated delivery system to information and services to promote early childhood development from prenatal to age 5.  This movement has since become known as “First 5” to emphasize the importance of the first five years of each child’s life.
